66 cafes and coffee shops counted from their Google listings: what kinds there are, how they are rated and how many reviews they have.
We looked at the 66 cafes and coffee shops with a public Google rating and an address in PO18, PO19 and PO20 (checked 3 October 2026). Every figure below is counted from those listings. Nothing is estimated.
What kinds of place are they?
Google files each listing under a category. The most common:
- Cafe: 37
- Coffee shop: 19
- Tea room: 3
- Charity: 1
- Hamburger restaurant: 1
- Espresso bar: 1
- Comic book shop: 1
- Bar: 1
How well are they rated?
The middle (median) rating is 4.5 stars. By band:
- 4.5 or higher: 37
- 4.0 to 4.4: 25
- 3.5 to 3.9: 1
- below 3.5: 3
How many reviews?
Between them they have 14,389 Google reviews. The most reviewed is Boston Tea Party with 1,292 (rated 4.6). The median is 150 reviews per listing, and 17 have fewer than 50, which is too few to say much about.
Food hygiene
We could match 43 of them to the Food Standards Agency register. 42 of those hold the top rating of 5, and 0 hold a 2 or lower. Hygiene ratings are the council inspector's, not Google's, and can be out of date.
